Video Production

Using the real-time virtual representation and the appropriate historical narrative for the promotion of cultural heritage monuments, the virtual reality production for the Holy Monastery of Hosios Loukas Steriotis is a production created especially for the "Tholos", the virtual reality theatre of the Foundation of the Hellenic World. An ambitious project that highlights the complex of world heritage monuments of great cultural and religious significance through a virtual tour, accompanied by an appropriate historical narrative. Thus, the project aims not only to reconstruct a glorious moment of the monument, but also to provide a documented representation of its evolution and, by extension, of the historical, social, and cultural context in which it was created and of which it has been a living symbol.

The production of virtual reality for the Holy Monastery of Hosios Loukas follows a narrative (storytelling) that presents the life of Hosios Loukas and the history of his relics up to their return to the Monastery, thanks to the efforts of the Archbishop Jerome II, at that time served as the Bishop of Thiva and Levadea, in parallel with the architectural, decorative-artistic and historical course of the monument through time and its connection with important historical events. For this presentation, significant periods of time have been selected in which the monument has been represented and which constitute important milestones for the narration and representation of both the architectural and decorative history of the monument, as well as wider historical events of the monastery and of the Greek nation.

In summary, the life of Hosios Loukas and the presence of his sacred relics are the starting point for tracing the creation and evolution over time of the monastery. The audience will have the opportunity to make a journey in space and time and discover the history of the architecture of the monastery, its artistic decoration, but also its relationship with the historical and social life of the region and the country, thus demonstrating the relationship of this most important Byzantine monument, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List for the unique value of its mosaic decoration.
